How Can Staff Share Their Learning with Their Colleagues?

As you know, people learn from teaching. When an educator has been to a conference or a workshop that not everyone attended, she should be required to share the information and even provide a mini-training, complete with handouts, for those who did not attend. This gesture will help all the teachers feel that they’re important members of the program.

In addition, attendees should submit a short summary of what they’ve learned and how they plan to implement the new information or strategy when they’re working with a child with challenging behavior. Bloom, Hentschel, and Bella (2016) suggest asking attendees to share

› Two things they learned that they are eager to share with their colleagues

› Two terrific ideas they plan to implement in their classroom

› Two outcomes they hope will result from their efforts

Such feedback is helpful for the attendees as well as for their fellow teachers. It also furnishes you with a record of the professional development activity (time, place, presenter, and session title), which, along with your teachers’ reactions to the activity and the content presented, will come in handy the next time you plan a professional development event.
